Heresy28 Part One: Dropsite

In 2019, the Baraqu Instagram group was created, drawing on the talents of a dozen or so inq28/ grimdark hobbyists with a focus on creating miniatures for the Unification Wars setting. As the pandemic brought our plans for a meet-up to a halt, however, the project shifted to a collaborative Horus Heresy event using modified Kill Team rules at Warhammer World in 2022. We worked on our various warbands in the months leading up to the event, and finally, on the fifth and sixth of April, we were able to put our event into action. Unfortunately, a number of our members were unable to attend, but we kept them in the loop with lots of photos and the promise of future events.

In this post, I'll be showing off photos of the various warbands and miscellaneous pictures I took during the event, while the next posts will focus on the games and narratives that played out with our miniatures.

I arrived at Warhammer World around midday where I met everyone for a lunch at Bugman's. After a brief fire drill caused a mass exodus from the building, we piled back inside to pour over each other's creations. The models in this particular post are centred more around @toki.paints and @lunax7070 's work, but the next post will feature models mostly by @k0rdhal and part three will put a spotlight on @marshal_werhner.

Michael of @toki.paints brought along what must've amounted to a whole army's worth of primarch-scaled Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Chaos Marines and Mechanicum.

(Above) Nick (@k0rdhal)'s Kill Team of Choice was his Blackshield warband, a mysterious and morally ambiguous group of Space Marines who exacted quite a toll across the event. Much more on these guys in the next post.

Shane (@lunax7070) brought along most of his collection, including his Sons of Horus and Iron Hands, as well as some of his misc models, all converted and sculpted to stand as tall as a Dreadnought.

My contribution to the event was bringing along my entire Talons of the Emperor army. Unfortunately, the light in the gaming hall can be a little harsh, but hopefully this gives a decent impression of the Custodian Guard and Anathama Psykana.

We also spent a little while looking around the fantastic Warhammer World exhibition. Here are some of the photos I took of the displays that caught my eye:

There were a couple of cool new dioramas too, and hadn't it been for the shop closing, I would've poured over them for hours.

Of course, we had some games to play, however, and a carefully crafted narrative to fulfil. In the next post, I'll be taking you through the first round of games and the characters involved. Thanks for reading!
